A Very Short Day at the Beach. This sculpture builds on a Precious Moments porcelain figure of a small boy at the beach. The water surrounding his feet has been expanded with a polymer clay to prove extra space surrounding the figure. Coming out of the water are four purple and green octopus tentacles, two of which have started to grab the boy…with what we assume is malicious intent.

Mike tries to instill a balance of melancholic whimsy in the creatures he is compelled to sculpt. The fact that they are all non-human tends to make them even more relatable to our own situations in life.
